Early life
Marlee Matlin was born in Morton Grove, Illinois on August 24, 1965. Donald and Libby Matlin welcomed her into this world. Donald, her father, was a car salesman. Due to sickness and fever when she was 18 months old, she lost 80 percent of her left ear’s hearing and all of her right ear’s hearing.
Matlin has two older brothers, Eric and Marc, with whom she spent her childhood. She used to go to a Deaf synagogue. She enrolled at John Hersey High School and Harper College in order to further her education. Matlin desired to work in the criminal justice system at the time.
