Marlee Matlin was born in Morton Grove, Illinois on August 24, 1965. Donald and Libby Matlin welcomed her into this world. Donald, her father, was a car salesman. Due to sickness and fever when she was 18 months old, she lost 80 percent of her left ear’s hearing and all of her right ear’s hearing.
Matlin has two older brothers, Eric and Marc, with whom she spent her childhood. She used to go to a Deaf synagogue.
