Leslie Kai Greene was born in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City, in the summer of 1975. From the age of six, Greene was confined to local foster care and residential treatment facilities. Unfortunately, he left his childhood home due to a difficult family situation. Greene spent the remaining ten years of his life in various facilities.
Greene began exercising after his seventh-grade English instructor pushed him to compete in adolescent bodybuilding contests. He was a natural fit for bodybuilding because of his quick physical development and history of getting into trouble as a kid. The 2009 International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) Australia Pro Grand Prix included Kai Green of the United States.
