Early life
On the 24th of August 1947, Joe Manchin was born in Farmington, West Virginia. His parents, John and Mary O. Manchin, welcomed him as their second child. Farmington’s mayor was his father. Joe used to own and operate a carpet and furniture shop as well.
He graduated from Farmington High School in 1965. He also passes a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Following that, he received a football scholarship to West Virginia University. He graduated in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1970.

Joe’s political career began when he was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates at the age of 35 in 1982. In the Democratic primary election in 2004, Joe vs Democratic governor Bob Wise. With enormous margins, he won both the Democratic primary and the general election. In 2008, he defeated Republican Russ Weeks to win reelection to a second term as governor. After Senator Robert Byrd’s death in June 2010, Joe announced in July 2010 that he will run for Senate.
Joe beat West Virginia Secretary of State Ken Hechler in the Democratic primary. Joe Biden, then-Vice President, swore him into the Senate on November 15, 2010.
Manchin recently suggested a proposal to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. The limiting the cost of the Democrats’ huge spending measure to roughly $1.5 trillion. He also increased the corporation tax to 25%. The greatest tax rate to 39.6%, and the capital gains tax to 28%. He went on to say that any income generated by the law beyond $1.5 trillion would be used to reduce the deficit.
