JaMarcus Trenell Russell was born in August 1985 to Bobby and Zina in Mobile, Alabama. In addition to playing football, Russell competed in basketball, the javelin, and other sports at Lillie B. Williamson High School. He astonishingly started every game on the varsity squad for four years under head coach Bobby Parrish. Furthermore, he never missed a game.
