Glenn ran against Democratic contender Terry McAuliffe in the general election. On September 16, 2021, the Appalachian School of Law welcomed Youngkin and McAuliffe for their first debate. On Wednesday, November 3, 2021, Glenn beat McAuliffe in the Virginia governor’s race.
Despite campaigning with Biden and Obama, Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe was defeated by Youngkin. Glenn was leading with 51 percent of the vote, approximately 91,000 votes more than McAuliffe, according to unofficial data from the Virginia Department of Elections on November 1, 2021.
