Early Life
Kameny was raised to Ashkenazi Jewish parents on May 21, 1925, in New York City. He attended Richmond Hill High School before enrolling at Queens College. Before completing his studies, he was conscripted by the United States Army. During World War II, he served in the Armed forces and then proceeded to Queens College. Where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1948.
Kameny then went to Harvard University to study astronomy for his master’s and Ph.D.

Kameny joined the Army Map Service as an astronomer in 1957. But, after refusing to reveal his sexuality, he was sacked a few months later.
The US Civil Service Commission was then sued by Kameny for wrongful dismissal. His legal concerns stemming from his sexual orientation are the first on record.
Kameny was a key organizer of public rallies for LGBT rights in the United States throughout the 1970s. He fought the American Psychiatric Organisation’s definition of homosexuality as a mental disease during this time. The Civil Service Commission officially overturned its anti-LGBTQ.
His efforts resulted in a significant shift in equal rights policies in the USA. Kameny was discharged from the service in 2009. President Barack Obama praised him for his support of the LGBTQ community.

Kameny managed to make a public appearance while suffering from heart problems. On September 30, 2011, in Washington, D.C., he gave his farewell address to an LGBTQ group.
He finds dead at his house on October 11, 2011. Arteriosclerosis-related cardiovascular disease was the cause of mortality.
