Don Gaetz was born in Rugby, North Dakota, on the 22nd of January, 1948. Jerry Gaetz, his father, was a Rugby mayor. In North Dakota, he ran for Lieutenant Governor. Jerry died of a heart attack while watching live television coverage of a 1964 North Dakota Republic Party gathering.
