Early life
On July 18, 1984, Ben Akren was birth in the United States, in Cedar Rapids. Chuck and Michele Askren’s home was his birthplace. Max, his younger brother, is a wrestler as well. The national title was won by his brother in 2010.
Arrowhead High School was where Ben finished his secondary schooling. He was a two-time state wrestling champion during his high school years. Later, he enrolled at the University of Missouri and began wrestling as an amateur.

Ben aspired to win an Olympic gold medal. He was defeated by Cuban wrestler Ivan Fundora in the bout, though. After losing the match, his Olympic ambition of capturing a gold medal was dashed.
He opted to pursue an MMA career after the Olympics. On February 7, 2009, he took on Josh Flowers in his debut MMA bout. In the first round, he TKO’d Josh.

On December 9, 2013, he inked a two-year deal with ONE Championship after his contract with Bellator expired. He fought Shinya Aoki in his most recent bout at ONE Championship. Ben scored a TKO victory against Shinya in the first round.
