Early Life
Ghani was born and educated in Afghanistan. Despite this, he studied at Lake Oswego High School in the United States. Where he graduated, after being selected for a foreign exchange program. He went on to study cultural anthropology at the American University of Beirut. Where he graduated in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree.
After winning a government grant, Ghani went to Columbia University in New York, where he graduated in 1977. Ghani had intended to return to Afghanistan immediately after finishing his studies, but pro-Soviet troops took control of his nation, imprisoning the majority of his male relatives.
